Words my friends use to describe me: smart, funny, kind, cheerful, creative, relaxed, affectionate, wry, welcoming, playful, warm, well-read, open-minded, and spiritual. How I describe myself: As screwed up as everybody else. But a little more hopeful, and certainly more cheerful.
In summary: I'm a bleeding-heart do-gooder liberal, with "the gift of laughter, a wild imagination, and a sense that the world is mad" (that's how Lady Clairmont once described Lord Byron, and I've always wanted to use it--plus it has the added benefit of being true). According to my mom, I'm one of the "most gracious, accepting, and loving people she has ever met." I'm OK with that.
NOTE: I'm not good at long-distance relationships. If you're not in the Chicagoland area, you won't hear from me.
My Ideal Person:
Kindness, creativity, humor, warmth, intelligence, and an inclination toward mischief.
You get bonus points if you know anything about literature, music, and like to watch movies now and then.
The last great book I read I'm reading "Little, Big" by John Crowley... it's strange and engaging. I think I really like it! The book before that was "Secret Scripture" by by Sebastian Barry--a depressing difficult Irish book... It gave me nightmares.
Recently I reread "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez -- I loved it when I was 20-something. I still do.
I really enjoyed "Stiff" by Mary Roach. It's about the secret life of cadavers. I know it sounds twisted, but it's fascinating and sometimes funny.
My most humbling moment If you mean learning humility: sitting next to the hospital bed of a friend dying of a ravaging disease while he greeted each visitor with concern and interest--watching grace under fire. If you mean embarrassing: fashion mistakes such as... one navy shoe, one black; the expensive new sweater worn inside-out; and my favorite, showing up for an important meeting in the exact same dress as my boss (still think I looked better in it).
Favorite on-screen sex scene Something in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" probably.
The best or worst lie you've ever told: I try not to lie, but I have stretched the truth to spare someone's feelings... as in "No, really, that haircolor is fine." while thinking "Whoa, your head is the color of dried blood. Who would pick 'black cherry?!'"
If I could be anywhere right now someplace with trees and leaves and green
Five items I can't live without well, not items per se but: people (friends and family), music, books, visual arts, nature
Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier. All kinds of bodies are sexy; imagination is sexier.
In my bedroom one will find... the standard-issue furniture (bed, nightstand, etc.); a rug designed to look like a giant leaf; candles; books of poetry; a pad of paper and a pen (in case I wake up in the night with a good idea); sometimes a chubby grey cat on the windowsill, keeping an eye on the neighborhood.
